Wandering Wednesday: The CQ Glee Club Takes a Road Trip

Curious Quilter Glee Club, a chorus of quilters. It is a lovely day for a road trip. When The Curious Quilter Glee Club takes a road trip, you can expect them to sing all the way. Please join the fun and visit two colorful and inspiring sites. The first stop takes us to see a quilter in Illinois, USA, who will energize us with color. It is a long drive to the second site, but the fresh perspectives in color and pattern that this Brazilian quilter shares are very alluring. Be sure to leave comments on these great blogs so they know you stopped by!

First Stop: Exuberant Color

Wanda of Exuberant Color has a joyful love of fabric that shows in all her work. Be sure to check out her Original Designs pages. Her works are colorful, but she has serious skills. I hope that she will enjoy the whimsical selection that simply burst forth from The CQ Glee Club! I can already hear students in her classes greeting her in song.

Second Stop: Quiltista

QuiltisistaIt may be a long haul from Illinois to Brazil by road, but one joy of the Internet is that you can go anywhere in the world almost instantly. Quiltista is the blog of Renata, a talented quilter and artist from Brazil. If Portuguese is not your strong point, you can read it in a reasonable English translation.

The influence of various South American cultures is reflected in the fabrics and the designs of the quilts. While she does not post very frequently, there is still much to enjoy. Last year she participated in the UNIART Brazil (Union of the Têxteis Artists of Brazil) Show, and her blog features several quilts from that event. Renata skillfully blends piecing with embroidery, a fabulous example being her January 2010 post called “Fogos de Artifício,” or “Fireworks.”

Come Visit Quiltista
set to The Turtles song ‘Happy Together’

It’s time to get away, and see
Quilts made with powerful passion, skill, and artistry.
Where hand-dyes, stripes, and solids work with majesty.
Come visit Quiltista.

Renata shares the work of many friends,
And walks us through great projects filled with many trends.
Then reinterprets art where fabric and threads blend,
Come visit Quiltista.

Color and texture working together show through
Renata’s art.
Crazy quilts, handbags, quilt shows and thread-painting too –
Renata’s art.
