A friend is hosting a bridal shower with a “Top Chef” theme. There will be a caterer supervising cooking demonstrations and ‘battles’ between the attendees. She wanted to have a special something to give the bride as she arrives, and asked me to make an apron and chef’s hat to match the blue and yellow theme.
It can be so much fun to do something a bit different once in a while, and I had not made aprons in a long time. Perhaps I got a bit carried away, but I wound up creating not only the apron and hat, but a tablecloth, table runner, and potholder as well. The tablecloth looks a bit pale in the photo, but is a lovely buttercup yellow gingham duck fabric. I hope these fun items will help launch the cooking battles with great style.
Giveaways on the Horizon
Quilters love giveaways, and there are so many going on this month. Hop into summer fabrics with the May Fab Shop Hop, one of several that they host each year. There you can win lovely grand prizes, but there are hundreds of $10 gift certificates for online quilt shops also up for grabs.
Sew, Mama, Sew is once again sponsoring May Giveaway Day, on May 23, 2011. At this time it looks like they will have links there to literally dozens and dozens of blogs and sites giving away quilty goodness. Pop over there on or after May 23rd to see the list.
Fairfield Batting is holding a contest; if your entry wins you can get $300 worth of batting! To enter, send a photo of a quilt made from one of their patterns on Fairfield World, enter by June 30, 2011.
A special one for quilting bloggers—hop over to Just A Bit Frayed, and enter the giveaway for a set of Anna Maria Horner LouLouThi fabric. My personal favorites from the LouLouThi line happens to be listed as #1, 3, 18, 27, and 28 on that site. If you blog, go pick out your favorites.
Well, that is just a sampling! I do try to keep up on giveaways, and regularly update my Other Quilty Giveaways list on the right side bar. If you host a giveaway, or find one to share, please email me and I will be glad to add it to the list.
Good luck to all who enter giveaways and contests. I hope that you enjoy visiting all the great blogs and shops out there run by fellow quilters. Let them know you dropped by—we all appreciate your comments and thoughts.
