Michelle Foster over at The Quilting Gallery is asking quilters all over the world to help create The Kaleidoscope Community Quilt. She shares the following background:
“Every year, since 1953, Ottawa (Canada’s capital) is transformed into Spring beauty with thousands upon thousands of gorgeous tulips. The Canadian Tulip Festival is the beginning of our festival season and the return of the tourists to our gorgeous city.
“This year at the Festival, visitors will be making blocks for a quilt. The Kaleidoscope Quilt is the…visual celebration of Peace and Friendship through Colours, Culture and Community. This unique piece of textile art will be created by the Canadian Tulip Festival’s 25,000 community members, in partnership with the Moon Rain Centre and the direction of textile artist Gabby Ewen.”
It is easy to take part by sending her a diamond of fabric or a piece of ribbon. Embellishments fitting the peace and friendship theme are welcomed. Full details, and a diamond template, can be found at The Kaleidoscope Community Quilt Project page. Everything will fit in a regular letter-size envelope, so mailing it to her should be easy. If you can get it to her by May 6, 2011 that’s wonderful, but it sounds like a bit later should work too.
I hope many of you will take some time this weekend to get a diamond of fabric headed to Michelle for this fun project. You can follow the quilt’s progress from her website.
