I just wanted to take a minute today to say hello to Ms. Nelson and the nine members of the girl’s club she runs through her church in Chicago. They are learning a skill today, and making quilts for a local women’s shelter. One of their mom’s was inspired by the Classic Squares Tutorial. She showed it to her thirteen-year-old daughter, who promptly said, “If Adriana can do it, so can I!”
They visited thrift shops and stores to get donations for fabric. Yesterday they cut their squares, and make their binding. Today is sewing day, Wednesday they are gathering to tie the quilts, and next weekend they will deliver them to the shelter. Now how cool is that?
I was quite flabbergasted when Ms. Nelson emailed me to tell me about their project. How wonderful that Adriana inspired them, and how humbling that they are each making their first quilt to give away. I hope they send photos!
A big hug and a handshake to each of these young ladies!!
Ms. Nelson asked me not to share her church affililiation.
